WordPress Security Plugin Vulnerability Affects +1 Million Sites

WordPress is one of the most popular content management systems (CMS) in the world, powering over 35% of all websites. As such, it’s no surprise that WordPress sites are a prime target for malicious actors looking to exploit vulnerabilities and gain access to sensitive data. Recently, security researchers discovered a vulnerability in a popular WordPress security plugin which has affected more than 1 million sites worldwide.

The vulnerable plugin is called “WP Live Chat Support” and was created by WP-LiveChat Inc., an Australian company that specializes in creating live chat plugins for WordPress websites. The plugin allows website owners to add live chat support features on their site without having to use third-party services like Zendesk or Intercom.

Unfortunately, due to an oversight on the part of WP-LiveChat Inc., the latest version of this plugin contained several serious security flaws which allowed attackers to inject malicious code into vulnerable sites and take control of them remotely. This type of attack is known as remote code execution (RCE).

Fortunately, once these issues were brought to light by security researchers at Wordfence Security Labs, WP-LiveChat Inc quickly released an update patching up these vulnerabilities and protecting users from potential attacks. However, since many users had not yet updated their versions of the plugin when news broke out about this issue, there may still be some vulnerable sites out there with outdated versions installed on them – making them easy targets for hackers who know how to exploit this vulnerability.

To protect yourself against similar threats in future it’s important that you keep your software up-to-date at all times – especially if you have any plugins or themes installed on your site from third party sources like WP Live Chat Support did here! Additionally make sure you always backup your website regularly so that if something does go wrong you can easily restore it back its original state without too much hassle or downtime! Finally consider investing in a reliable web application firewall (WAF) solution such as Sucuri WAF which will help protect your site from various types cyberattacks including RCE exploits like those found here with WP Live Chat Support Plugin Vulnerability Affects +1 Million Sites |WordPress Security Plugin Vulnerability Affects +1 Million Sites|Security|Search Engine Journal
